Our team operates small stands on target beaches equipped with sieves, measuring equipment, and funds for dispersal. BBM staff then encourages beachgoers to collect small quantities of washed-up microplastics in exchange for a small cash "bounty" - similar to other redemption programs like those for cans and bottles.
BBM staff sorts our acquired microplastics to be distributed to partner organizations engaging in artistic and academic projects, or for environmentally-conscious disposal.
We invest in and maintain our relationships with our regular Beach Bounty collectors, our private and public charitable donors, and academic and government spheres trying to address microplastic contamination affecting Hawaii beaches. Through this community engagement, we aim to continue expanding our operations, which we hope will include you!
